the vi concept
Vi-bouldering is an Australian based bouldering website that is more than just a list of guys ticking hard boulder problems with esoteric names. We wanted to make an interactive site 'for the bouldering community by the bouldering community', with the ideals of inclusiveness, equality and collaboration. We also wanted to steer away from the obsession with grade chasing and elitism that sometimes pervades our sport.
There will always be a need to recognise those of us who are openning up problems at the physical limits of our sport - it is these talented men and women who motivate us to achieve - but we should also recognise the achievements of the majority of boulderers who are trying just as hard to push their own personal limits. It is this social aspect of the sport that is one of its greatest strengths.
Individually we all have diverse opinions, views and beliefs, collectively we all share the same love of the sport. Whether you write an article, submit a picture or just post a controversial comment in the forum, when you add something to vi-bouldering, your contribution (however small you may think it is) adds to us all - the entire bouldering communiy.
So the 'i' in vi-bouldering stands for 'infinity'. The 'infinity' is not about grades, it is about pushing the limits - both personal and collective. It's also about celebrating the infinite experiences that the sport of bouldering can bring. Vi-bouldering is where boulderers from all over can get together and share ideas, opinions, experiences and achievements. At vi we have a one simple philosophy - bouldering is more than just ticking a V15.
At vi-bouldering we also don't want to take ourselves too seriously. At the end of the day, bouldering should be fun.
